event of her attempted rape and murder expressed, above all, the desire not to
commit a sin of impurity and concern for the soul of her attacker. Her
murderer remained unrepentant for years after his crime, however, while in
prison he had a dream that Maria came to him and offered forgiveness. As a
result, he had a conversion experience which transformed him for the rest of his
life. He attended her canonization in 1950. This book describes her
